Weekly weigh in

So I'm kind of digging this "weigh in on Fridays" thing. To be honest, I do weigh myself other days too, but Fridays are the only day I've been recording. I like it because I can still see my daily fluctuations, but my trend over time will make more sense.

Anyhow. This week I lost 1.1 lbs for a total of 62.1. I weight 164.9. I'm on my way.....

Coming up for this weekend...a 7 mile run. I am scared!

New mini goal surpassed!

I weighed in this morning and lost another 2 lbs, for a total of 61. I passed 60! WOOT!!! How freaking exciting is that?! Ok, so maybe for other people it might not be that exciting, but I am THRILLED beyond belief.

It was just another week of making good choices as to what I ate, and I got my regular runs in as well - 3.1 miles on Tuesday, which I did in 32:36, and I was thrilled about that as well) and 4 miles last night.

I am going to Vegas in exactly 3 weeks from today. I would LOVE to weigh 159 by then. That is 7 more lbs, so I'm not sure it's possible especially this late in the game - but I sure am going to try!!! I think the key to making it will be to continue running and working out regularly, and going a couple of weekends without cheating, or at least cheating less.

Anyhow. I have to get going to work. It's early but I have a ton to do so I'm going to put in some overtime. Have a great weekend!!!!

Tough run

On Saturday, my husband and I went out to do our long run together on the lake walk. It was much warmer than I am used to so far (in the 70's) and I got dehydrated due to poor planning on my own part. That was NO FUN! But we did 6.2 miles...another 10k....and I managed to improve last weekends time by a couple of minutes. When I was done, I planted my ass on a bench to recover for a couple of minutes. Then we walked to the car where I guzzled a big bottle of Powerade.

From now on, I will remember to plan ahead by filling up one fluids before a run like that. That was one tough run.

Oops...

A five-er and a thirty-three-er

Ok, so maybe there is something to be said for weighing in only weekly.
I was feeling good about my weigh in...figuring I would be about 170 for a loss of 3 lbs since last weigh in.

I almost crapped my pants when I saw it....1 6 8. I weigh 168?! I LOST FIVE POUNDS! I AM THE 160's! HOLY SHIT! I honestly cannot remember when I was last in the 160's! Seriously. When I got married I was about 172-174. This is a huge deal for me. I am still in a bit of shock.

Why did I lose so much all of a sudden? My best guess is that I have cut down on carbs (they certainly aren't forbidden though...I love pasta and bread tooooo much), I eat a lot of salad and veggies and fruit, I have increased my water intake dramatically, I did not drink any pop all week (which is a huge deal in itself), and I had 2 good runs where I pushed myself hard (and beat my previous personal best both times...including 1 minute 5 seconds of improvement from Tuesday to Thursday alone).

So yeah - last night I went out for a run on the lake walk and finished a 5k with a time of 33:28. My very first outdoors 5k ever was 38:48, and that was 10 months ago. Definite improvement, I'd say.

CHEERS TO THE FREAKIN WEEKEND!

My favorite foods

Sometimes I get asked what I eat, so here is a general summary of some of my favorites!
To be honest, during the week I generally end up just having coffee and sometimes a granola bar in the morning. Yeah, I know you aren't supposed to skip breakfast, but I find my time too limited to make anything. But that is where granola bars come in handy. On the weekends, I eat whatever for breakfast - often times it includes eggs.

For lunch, I eat a lot of salad, veggies and fruits. My favorite veggie is Green Giant green beans with almonds, or baby carrots. My favorite fruit lately has been grapefruit. They are so delicious, and so big, but so good for you!! I tend not to eat many carbs for lunch, at least on week days.

For dinners on the weekdays, I try to eat things like shrimp or chicken. If we have something like Spaghetti, I find it hard to resist, but we use whole wheat noodles and I try to keep in mind portion control and add some kind of veggie to my meal as well. I am also a huge fan of Subway....Whole wheat bread with lots of veggies, half the turkey as usual, no cheese no sauce. Someone commented it seems that would be too dry, but it's really not. I love it!

For snacks I like fruits and veggies. I stay away from chips, candy and other sweets.

On the weekends, I allow some cheating and especially on days when I am doing a long training run. I don't rule anything out on weekends, really. I try to pick one day or the other instead of the WHOLE weekend for a cheat-fest, but I definitely allow for cheating one way or the other. I don't think I would be successful if I was strict on myself 24/7.

Fitness

Here is something I was just thinking about the other day that I thought I would share.

This journey, (as any else who has been on it knows) is HARD. It is a long process, it's a struggle sometimes, and it can be like a roller coaster. For me, it is hard to think that I started out at 227 lbs and "obese" (by Wii Fit standards anyhow). As of my last weigh in, I was 173 which is great compared to 227...but still "overweight". I have lost 54 pounds over 15 months and still, I am overweight. That is kind of hard to swallow! It took forever (you see some people lose like 100, 150 lbs in one year...WOW!) and I still have a little more to go. I am proud and happy about what I've done, but at the same time it's like....holy crap, will this ever end?

On the flip side of weight is actual FITNESS. And my fitness level has increased dramatically from the start to now. Heck, from any time in my life to now. I never, ever, ever imagining being a "runner". I am up to doing 5k's twice a week and a long run on weekends (last weekend was a 10k, or 6.2 miles) in preparation for a half marathon. Regardless of my overweight status, I am fairly fit.

Not only can I walk up stairs without breathing hard, I can run several miles. Without dying, even! And that by itself is a freaking miracle!

A forced scale break

I still don't have my Wii Fit back, which of course is annoying but I am hoping will end up being good. Although I do like weighing myself almost daily on weekdays because it helps to keep myself accountable as well as recognize and get used to natural fluctuations. But perhaps I will see a couple pound loss. I don't know....time will tell...but I sure do hope. I am getting closer and closer to my goal. When I started this blog, my goal as 150. I am thinking now I may move that to 145, but I won't know for sure until I hit 150. Like I've said before - I have no idea what I look or feel like at 150. I haven't been 150 since probably Junior High.

I will share something frustrating I am already noticing... I have what my mother in law likes to call an ass-crack on my stomach (she isn't calling mine an as crack, that is how she refers to it on herself), resulting from a vertical C-section scar. Below that is my little shelf which now instead of being fat, is turning into more skin. I can already see that no matter how thin I get, I may still have my ass crack stomach and wrinkly skin (from stretch marks I think). Which is okay, I don't want to be perfect. Though I won't lie, ideally I would not have a second "ass crack"....

There. I shared my embarassing thought for the day.

Weekend summary

Friday on our way out of town for Easter, we stopped at McDonalds since it is the easiest. I was very proud of myself, I checked out the nutritional info online first and chose a salad and low-cal dressing.

Saturday I ate like crap. Chocolate for breakfast (seriously), pizza for lunch, pizza for dinner, Sex on the Beach, Vodka/Cranberry and a Georgia Peach (shot) at the bar, then ice cream cake before bed.

Sunday was better. I ate much healthier and tackled a 6.22 mile run! My first 10k ever, which is very exciting. We are actually one week ahead in our long runs according to the training schedule we are following. (We being my husband and I). I am glad though, because I feel like that gives us more wiggle room.

Unfortunately I cannot weigh myself right now, as we got some new hook-ups going on with our TV and need one new cord or something...and the one item that got left in the dust until we get the missing item is the Wii. I insist on only doing my official weigh ins on the Wii because it tells me a BMI (yes I realize its not necessarily exactly accurate or even a good measure of anything, but I still like to see it go down). And it shows me my history. And that way, its consistent. Another scale might be a pound or two off in either direction and freak me out or give me false excitement. So yeah, I will stick to the Wii. Hopefully it's back in action soon so I can gauge my progress over the last week-ish.

Eating Chocolate for breakfast by the way....aaaaah. So bad but so good ;-)

Yay!

Ok so I can't think of any clever blog titles. But "Yay!" sums it up pretty nicely I think!
I lost a little more, bringing my total to 54 lbs. Awesome!
My BMI was 27.81 - first time in the 27's. Awesome!
Only 5 more lbs, and I will be in the 160's. AWESOME!!!!!!!
I haven't been in the 160's since just about high school, I think. 12 years ago.
Just awesome, awesome, awesome awesome!!

Equally as awesome is my training runs the past week. Over the weekend I was scheduled for a 4-miler, but I felt good and brave enough to bring that up to 5.25 miles - which is my longest run to date. I could have gone farther, but I had to go to the bathroom! (Just being honest!)
Then earlier this week I headed out to the lake walk on a gorgeous day for a scheduled 2.5 mile run. However I brought that up to 3.1 (so a 5k) and finished it in 35 minutes! (Pretty much 35 minutes even! I just don't have the exact time because I thought I pressed stop on my tracking app but didn't). That is 52 seconds faster than my previous best, which was an official 35:52 at the Gobble Gallup in November. I would love to get under 35 minutes, but first and foremost I just need to continue building my stamina.

This weekend I plan to try and get a 6 miler in. Of course I will let you know how that goes, assuming I survive it. HA!

Women Rock!

Apparently having one half marathon to train for (my first, no less) is not enough for me. I decided to sign up for another half marathon, this one in September. This one is the Women Rock, for women only. Should be a fun time! What is really cool about it is that I will already have one half marathon down, so I will have a personal time to beat!

I think we have decided to skip on the Vegas 5k. As fun as I think it would be, it would be on our first morning waking up there. I am sure we won't feel like getting up at 6 am to get ready for a race. We aren't there very long, only a few days...maybe if we were there for a week or something I guess. I am not sure if I mentioned this but I did sign up for a 5k at the end of July. I signed up with a friend who will be doing a 5k for the first time, so I am excited to help spread the love of running. Hopefully!

So as of now my race schedule is: Half Marathon in June, 5k in July, Half Marathon in September. Also, we have not signed up and we shall see how it goes, but the Gobble Gallup we did last year on Thanksgiving was pretty fun. I would do that again, but it depends on what our plans end up being for Thanksgiving obviously.

Finally, a quick weekend progress report....weekends are still a struggle and it sure isn't easy when there is delicious home made salsa and butterscotch chip brownies around. And wine. And I admit, I did indulge more than I should have on Saturday. On the plus side, I also ran 5.25 miles on Saturday! That is the most I have ran ever, and I am quite excited about it. Next weekend I hope to do a 6 miler. Anyhow, overall I managed to stay exactly even in weight after this weekend. Not a loss like I would prefer, but I am thankful I didn't gain!

Then you've got people like my dad, who can eat large quantities, and eat plenty of "treats", and not gain anything. WTF? Seriously?! That's a subject for another blog entry though...
